Dior Makeup and Hair Fashion in Fall/Winter 2011: Fire and Gold

Personally for me Dior is a synonym of elegance and taste when it comes to makeup, hair, fragrances and hats. Their makeup ideas for fall/winter 2010/2011 are definitely inspiring and very much seasonally appropriate: the makeup palette mirrors bright and earthy fall colors stressing softness and dramatizing brightness where needed. For fall 2010/winter 2011 Dior suggests slightly exaggerated natural looks based on brown and purple that are complimented by bronze and gold. As always, perfectly smooth skin blossoms thanks to the warm shades of foundation and Dior brows are very natural this season. While they are groomed and shaped, the only brow pencil used for the whole 2011 fashion show is dark brown. Brown, gold and yellow eye shadows dominate all looks in combination with a light touch of eye pencil and solid amounts of mascara. Lip makeup varies from barely touched natural pink lips to off-red accents to dark earth purple lipstick.

See All Makeup and Hair Fashion from Dior Fall 2010

Hair fashion 2011 from Dior is also different. This season the stylists selected 2 popular looks: a classy elegant bun or crazy teased curly hair that will not take much to achieve. Even though these 2 hair looks are so drastically different, both of them are based on natural hair behavior and will fit any woman, whether you have straight and flat hair, or curly and crazy mess.

La Fille de Boheme: How to Get Angelina Jolie Lips with Makeup

Lips can be a great weapon of seduction, it is one point of your face that can attract the most attention. Having beautiful and soft lips requires some special care and effort. Next season bet on vivid and cheerful colors. Look for the lipstick tones that match your skin and personality. If you are not blessed with sexy lips of actresses Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson, there are little tricks of makeup that will allow you to gain the most lip volume without a face lift:

- We know that as with age we lose collagen and lips become thinner. Junior Queiros, our almost resident makeup magic man, suggests using natural color lipsticks that are close to your skin tone to visually enlarge lips.

- Another option is cream lipstick: apply it thoroughly and blur.

- With a gloss of any color applied in the center lips will look more juicy. In addition, with moisturizing gloss lips acquire volume. There is another interesting option to use gloss with volume effect to discretely enlarge lips.

- For daytime pink or brown lipstick or just a moisturizing lip gloss may be a good option. For evening dates all tones of red, fuchsia or bubblegum pink can be good as they soften facial features and emphasize tanning.

- To leave lips soft, use a mild exfoliating skin scrub and hydrating lip balm.

Beaty Trapped in Gold: How to Create Your Own Makeup Look

Junior Queiros (our trusted makeup specialist) once again shares the latest tips and tricks of professional makeup. According to Junior, the next fashion season will be marked with a variety of very feminine and sophisticated makeup trends like the look he created for his recent photoshoot “Trapped in Gold”. He suggests to follow the steps below to create your own original golden look:

Step 1: Cleanse and moisturize your skin for the best results. First apply tonic to cleanse and tone the skin, then apply a gentle moisturizer that is quickly absorbed.

Step 2: Apply light makeup, it is important that it matches your skin tone to achieve a natural look. Apply it in circular motions. The goal is a healthy and fresh look like if you have just stepped out of the shower. Play with light make-up foundations that catch the light.

Step 3: Apply correction illuminators (concealers) at strategic points of the face like your chin, corners of your lips, nose, dark circles under eyes, etc. It is important to use minimal amounts of the product just enough to correct imperfections of your face. Camouflage imperfections carefully with a concealer that is only a shade lighter than your skin: this is the key to a successful application!

Step 4: Apply loose powder to give your skin skin a velvet finish. We used a broad brush across the model’s face, so that the skin looks more natural and glossy. Use neutral colors that bring warmth to face.

Step 5: Gently apply a golden eye shadow (a la mother of pearl) all over your eyelid, blur the edges. Bright eyes: Apply sepia bronze eye shadow with gold accents across the eyelid. The lighter shade around the outside of the eye is very bright. One can achieve dramatic results by shading the eye under the lower lashes - a very sensual look.

Step 6: Carefully apply a coppery brown eye shadow at the edge of the eye to provide depth. The key is to join all shades of eye shadows with a shiny finish.

Step 7: Now apply the same coppery brown eye shadoe at the bottom of your eye near your eyelashes to enhance the look.

Step 8: Carefully curl your lashes with a curling iron to open the eyes.

Step 9: Double apply mascara, top and bottom to improve eye shape and open the eyes.

Step 10: Apply bronze blush from the center of the cheeks to the temples blurring the edges. Define cheekbones. The key is a subtle interplay of light and shadow. Apply darker blush from the temples to mark the contours and achieve a more youthful look. Then illuminate the center of the forehead, the sides of the nose and the chin.

Step 12: Apply a clear lip gloss to make your lips look juicy. Additional moisturizing lip gloss creates volume.

Your Hair Worries Are Over: 5 Tricks to Effortless Hair Styling

With all the processing, coloring and cutting women do to their hair finding styles that are effortless can seem impossible. Wearing your hair in a ponytail, bun, braid, natural or curls are tricks hairstylists recommend for an easy fix to a bad hair day.

The ponytail is the easiest style women have learned to love. All it takes to make a ponytail is a smooth brush and maybe light oil to slick the hair back. The great thing about this style is its versatility; it can go from a day look to an evening look with no extra bells and whistle. This also applies to the famous bun. The beauty of a bun is its classic simple look. You can wear a messy bun for those casual days around the house or an elegant bun for a red carpet event. Another effortless style that is actually trendy this summer is the single braid. When your hair gets unbearable just braid it up and go. For all of the natural women: having the ability to wash your hair and wear it natural is a great way to keeping it simple. Also recommended are hot curls because it’s a long lasting style.

To make these styles fun and trendy adding hair accessories such as hair clips and head bands takes a ponytail, bun, braid, natural or curls to the next level. Follow these tips and your bad hair days will be a thing of the past.

The theme is as old as the world but the photos reflect the most recent style trends for women in summer 2010.
Editor’s Choice for Skincare: Bioethique Certified Organic Antioxidant Serum

It does not happen often that here, at Fashion.Maga-Zine.com, we recommend any products personally relying on our staff experiences. However, Bioethique organic skincare is an exception. Not as an editor but as a woman with sensitive and difficult skin (including allergy and psoriasis), I tested Bioethique organic skincare for several days. For once, I was not afraid to try a new product because this skin care line is third-party certified and Bioethique are very open about their ingredients and production processes that help keep all products 100% natural (unlike many other skin care lines). When one has difficult skin with allergy and psoriasis in the picture, it is not easy to try something new: you stick with what works. Bioethique Antioxidant Serum became my absolute favorite skin care item! About 7 days into using it my skin evened out, blemishes and red spots went away and most importantly, daily shine disappeared completely. My makeup actually sits well throughout the day and I do not look like a shiny mirror. Needless to say, it’s a huge convenience and confidence boost.

If you are reading this article, please be aware that Bioethique did not pay Fashion.Maga-Zine.com for any reviews or promotions. They simply supplied us with samples of several products for a fair and independent opinion. This recommendation is based solely on my own experience and gratitude to Bioethique for fantastic natural skin care products.

Makeup and Hair Fashion at Madrid Fashion Week: Cibeles 2010 Backstage

Fashion and creation are, once again, the main themes of a new edition of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week, the great platform for the promotion and dissemination of design in Spain, organized by IFEMA, which is celebrating its fifty-first edition from 18 to 23 February at Feria de Madrid.

On this occasion, the main showcase for Spanish creation involves 51 designers who, with their diverse stylistic proposals, will evidence the creative heterogeneousness of fashion in the country. They are joined by almost 30 young designers who will be showing their collections in the El Ego showroom, a space with direct retail sales for the whole time that Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week is on.

As the event continues at this very moment, Fashion.Maga-Zine.com would like to bring you a look at the backstage to see amazing makeup and hair fashions that stylists created for the fashion shows. Natural looks never go out of style and look amazing in combination with dark hair and bronze skin complexion. Spanish stylists, however, did not limit themselves to the natural choices and created a number of fun, colorful and splashy makeup looks engaging red, yellow, coral and a wide variety of other colors. Hair styles are just as diverse as the makeup: from slick pony tails to hair masterpieces decorated by flowers and fantastic hats.

The blogosphere is definitely buzzing: the unique beauty of Kim Kardashian disappeared behind the fantasy of a photographer. Whether you agree or disagree with the beauty statement, Kim for sure looks different. It is especially surprising given that the photo shoot stylists did not take her far outside her usual style - the same black hair, black smokey eyes and dramatic contrasts. However, it is a different woman looking at you off the photos. Much to be said about the art of makeup and style… and probably Kim’s best friend Photoshop once again…

How to: Step by Step Instructions to Bring out Your Natural Beauty with Makeup

Step 1: In the first stage clean and moisturize your skin for best makeup. First apply a tonic to cleanse and tone the skin, then apply a mild moisturizer and rapid absorption. In this way we will have a firm and smooth skin.

Step 2: Apply a light background makeup that is very important to be of the same skin tone. To make it as natural as possible try putting it in a circular motion to activate the base and have the product well blurred.

Step 3: Apply the correction illuminators in strategic points of the face, like the hollow of the chin, the ends of the lips, nose and wings in dark circles, it is important that the product smooths small imperfections in the face. Once the correction is applied, the diffused light softens imperfections.

Step 4: Apply the loose powders to qualify and leave the skin with a velvet finish. We used a big brush across the face, so that the skin looks more natural and glossy.

Step 5: Apply gently with your fingers a pearly shade of cream, peach-toned around the mobile eyelid, blurred or shaded so that the product is fully compatible with the skin.

Step 6: With a pink shaded brown delicately applied in the recess of the eyelid and the tip of the mobile eye, give depth and shape the look.

Step 7: In the bottom of the eye near the growth of eyelashes, apply a light brown shade to enhance the look that delicately fades into zig-zag.

Step 8: With great care use eyelash curlers to visually open eyes.

Step 9: Apply a double layer of mascara - tabs up and down to open eyes.

Step 10: If you want a little more daring, put some eyelashes for a more glamorous look, gently apply the eyelashes on top lashes. Then apply mascara to blend artificial eye-lashes with your own.

Step 11: For they are the most natural eyelashes, apply a very fine eye liner where we apply the eyelashes, that way pegamiento and conceals the base of eyelashes.

Step 12: With a cream rouge in pink coral tone applied from the center of the cheeks to the temples, blur everything to give the look a healthy air.

Step 13: Apply the same rouge on the lips.

Step 14: Use a bubblegum pink gloss on the lips for a more juicy effect. The gloss also hydrates lips and creates volume. You can also play with various shades of lip gloss in different seasons. In case you want a sophisticated look, with two simple tricks you can instantly change you makeup.

Step 15: We mark the arc of the eyebrows, blurring the product into the root hair to tone up your natural color, this way we fill the spaces between a hair and another.

Step 16: Add a black stroke on the bottom inside the eye, you’ll see a more sexy look.

Bioethique: about “Green Washing” in Beauty Industry, or Why My Organic Skin Care Is Not Organic?

“Green washing” does not sound like anything good (if you are not familiar with the term) and at the end of the day, it isn’t. Being green, natural, organic, and eco-friendly spells profits these days: if one’s product label has a certain percentage of natural components, the product can be called green or natural without going into further details. But notice that it is not necessary to have 100% of green ingredients, and it is not necessary to disclose the manufacturing process with all its ins and outs.

Bioethique is a Canadian skin care company that Fashion.Maga-Zine.com recently discovered among truly organic manufacturers of beauty products. Their information kit actually explains the process of “green washing” happening in the market today:

“The term “Green Washing” has been coined to describe these actions – by companies who portray a green-friendly facade but who donʼt necessarily have environmentally sound practices or who simply over-state the degree to which their products are organic. As a result, consumers are becoming jaded and expressing a growing concern over their ability to differentiate products which are 100% organic versus those that simply lay claim to being organic.”

Claudine Michaud, whose organic skin care line Bioethique is the first in North America to be third-party certified organic by Europeʼs strictest organic certifier, Nature et Progres explains: “The only way to guarantee that what a cosmetic company is claiming on the label or in their marketing is actually true, is if that company is third-party certified organic by a reputable certifier such as Nature et Progres or the USDA.”

According to Michaud, “Many consumers are surprised to discover that the cosmetic industry is essentially unregulated in North America. In Canada, when a new skin care product is brought to the market, manufacturers are not required to send that product to Health Canada for testing. The only thing that Health Canada requires is a written list of ingredients. In the U.S., no notification is required at all.” This comes as a shock to many people, as there is a widely held belief that government is testing new products, not only to ensure that they are safe, but also to confirm that what is stated in the list of ingredients matches what is actually in the bottle.

As a matter of fact, Bioethique is third-party certified and produces 100% organic skin care products. Being the Chief Editor of Fashion.Maga-Zine.com, I personally tested Bioethique skincare products (day cream, night cream, eye cream, and a few more samples) but am most of all impressed with their antioxidant repair serum that restores damaged skin and corrects oil production. A few of my colleagues are still testing Bioethique skin care products and so can a lucky reader of Fashion.Maga-Zine.com: send us an email at staff@maga-zine.com with the subject Line “I Love Organic Skin Care!” and you will be a part of our organic beauty lottery. One lucky winner will receive the grand prize: an organic skin care gift box from Bioethique (bioethiqueorganic.com)!

Junior Queiros is Fashion.Maga-Zine.com latest talent discovery: a brilliant makeup artist from Barcelona, Spain who creates art with a makeup brush in his hand. Junior Queiros works his makeup magic for an advertising/modeling agency in Barcelona and teaches at a well known makeup school at the same time. That’s a lot of beauty credibility! As a makeup professional, Junior offered Fashion.Maga-Zine.com a couple of great talking points touching upon the topics that became both, debatable and important in the modern world, particularly for teens and young women: the challenge of new technologies and a distorted perception of beauty. What are we talking about? Photoshop, celebs, flawless cover and commercial models, deceptive photography, and the fact that nobody’s perfect.

If you are a woman between the ages of 5 and 99, how many times did you stare at a magazine cover wishing you were younger, prettier, better looking, and just as perfect as the cover girl? I bet a few more times than you would want to. Of course, the reality fascinates even more when watching a video like this:

Watch How Perfect Beauty Is Created by Professional Makeup and Technologies

Here is what Junior Queiros, the Brazilian makeup guru, has to say: “The miracle of makeup is the challenge of reconciling the decorative effect of a blemish-free skin with the effect that provides a good face. The velvety skin that looks perfect in the ads is largely a product of the combination of a good makeup artist work and a photo editing software. There are very few privileged people, who have natural porcelain complexion, smooth and uniform. That is why many photographers use these resources not only for improving the appearance of a model but also to achieve interesting effects, texture, and better light.

All work performed during a photo shoot can be fully edited with a push of a button. It is important to use a photo editing software with caution. This type of software is a great tool to correct skin imperfections that you cannot hide with makeup, as well as change a light badly positioned, or any unwanted element in the composition of a photograph. The technologies can greatly facilitate professional work, if they are used for natural effect.

In most productions, I always used Photoshop in post-sessions: we know that nothing and nobody is perfect and this action is especially necessary in big productions that require correction for producers and customers. Everything must be perfect and it’s a magical power to change or modify anything we want. Ultimately, the work is cleaner and better looking, turns into a masterpiece. Viva new technologies!”

Viva, indeed. Next time you find yourself staring at a magazine cover remember: nobody’s perfect. In reality, you are as beautiful as a cover girl, you just don’t use Junior Queiros and Photoshop to prove it!

Makeup Trends and Tips 2010: What to Shop for This Year

2010 has entered the history scene and is bringing new fashions and makeup trends to the table. What should we, fashionistas, expect from the 2010 makeup ideas, and what should we put on our makeup shopping list? As you know, spring, summer, and fall seasons will bring their own makeup palettes, as well as designer tricks. But there are still a few trends that seem to be universal through the whole 2010 and will help you find the right direction in a makeup store:

Skin and skin tone are very important in 2010. Healthy, natural looking, and most importantly, matte (not shiny) skin will be in fashion. Pale ivory skin tones will also be popular in 2010.

Accented cheeks are becoming the key element of the 2010 makeup. In fact, you might choose to accent the cheek color with pink, gold, tan or any other shade that will underline your healthy looks.

Eye makeup will feature 2 contrasting looks: very dark and saturated eye makeup, and mild transparent makeup creating the effect of completely natural eyes. Artificial eye lashes are rumored to be left out in 2010 due to extensive use of black eye pencils that can replace the abundant eye lashes effect.

Innocent lips are most preferred in 2010: pink, tan, soft violet, and natural skin color - it will all work just fine. Red lipstick can still be used as an option but in this case try to reduce the amount of eye makeup to still maintain modest and classy impression.

Cool Makeup Ideas for the 2010 New Year’s Eve

If you have done any research at all, you already know that 2010 is a year of Tiger. And I do not mean Tiger Woods, by the way, who definitely dominated the headlines recently. The year of Tiger name is based on the Chinese horoscope, so, as an option, we would like to offer a tiger makeup, or any other animal print makeup as animal print is definitely at the top of style charts right now. Suggested makeup color solutions are warm browns, black, tan, and all shades of gold. This does not exclude the all-time favorite pink, however. While pink, blue and other cold palette shades would not be typical for a tiger look, it does not mean that you cannot let your fantasy fly and create an animal print makeup with pink and silver, for example. The key here is definitely not the colors but the wild cat look. It is also important to remember that a New Year’s Eve makeup is intensive by nature and usually means artificial eye lashes, sparkles, or other stage-like elements. But it’s always possible to tone a holiday version down a bit and turn it into a look fit for a restaurant or a less festive plan.

America’s Next Top Model Contestant Sarah Hartshorne Reveals Her Favorite Makeup Looks

We first saw Sarah Hartshorne on cycle 9 of America’s Next Top Model, where she charmed Tyra Banks and the judges with her stunning facial features that made a picture come alive. Today, she’s signed with New York-based IPM Model Management and regularly books beauty and commercial jobs.

Inspired by Sarah’s beautiful green eyes and the winter season, makeup artist, Holly Corsano, decided to use a silvery-blue shade for the eyes and neutral colors for the lips to magnify Sarah’s natural beauty and still give the look a cool tone.

Sarah’s favorite going out makeup is an interesting take on the smokey eye, like the icy look here or a more muted, brown palette. Her lipstick of choice is usually a nice nude shade that doesn’t detract from her eye makeup.

Modeling was something Sarah stumbled into with the show and is still keeping an open mind and feeling her way along. What she has her mind set to is acting, as this is what she had originally set out to do. She loves big editorial spreads that tell a story and she’d love to add more of those to her modeling portfolio. As one of the “plus-size” girls on the show, Sarah loves to see girls with curves on the runway. To her, Mark Fast’s 2009 show was proof that you can have curves in fashion without sacrificing that unattainable, fantasy-like feeling.

Makeup 2010: Key Trends and Colors

Makeup 2010 has proven to be a child of extreme: extreme white and black compete against each other in popularity. Here is how the leading makeup artists work style in winter 2010:

1. Skin tone - start with the basics. Tanned face is not in fashion this season. It is pushed out of the view by smooth, perfect light skin tones sometimes underlined by very light makeup shades in spots where one would usually apply blush or bronzer. In other words, the lighter and smoother, the better.

2. Brows are fundamental for any look. Since extreme is the leader, brows tend to be wide and intense, or non-existent at all.

3. Eye makeup did not mature much since summer. Smoky eyes are still popular, only became a little more aggressive. An alternative to aggressive eye makeup would be intense white or goldish eye shadow.

4. Classic red lips compliment aggressive eye makeup. Pale skin color lips are combined with very light makeup. Seems a bit against logic but actually brings a new twist on winter looks.

Winter 2010 makeup looks are relatively easy to create compared to bright makeup ideas of the past summer: less colors, less variations, less effort. Let’s take advantage of winter fashion and save colorful beauty inspirations for the coming spring!

Backstage Hair & Makeup - Pasarela Cibeles 2010 Fashion Week (Spain)

Pasarela Cibeles Fashion Week 2010 (season spring/summer 2010) featured cool hair and makeup ideas, as always. Bright color solutions, creative hair with flowers weaved in and outrageous hats - all of that is available in backstage photos. The dynamic and fun atmosphere of artistic spirit is streaming through the pictures. Models are posing, winking, smiling on the go as they line up for walking the runway. One of my personal favorites is a photo of high fashion sunglasses encrusted with gemstones throughout the surface. I doubt that it is wearable outside the fashion show but looks very glamorous on the catwalk! It is beyond doubt that color as a theme reigned the backstage and makeup artists’ brushes were mixing yellow eye shadow with red lipstick in one look quite successfully. It’s a bold solution for a deep blue outfit but also a gorgeous one! If you would like to repeat the looks of Pasarela Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week 2010, try a bold color combination like this, it is amazingly energetic and fun!

Agyness Deyn in Makeup Campaign by Anna Sui

Anna Sui makeup campaign Fall 2009/Winter 2010 selected the famous model Agyness Deyn as the main character of the campaign. The reason why we found it quite interesting is an unusually feminine and fragile image of the character depicted by Agyness Deyn, sort of a contradiction to what she (as a model) is essentially known for. It is just interesting to see Agyness Deyn in such a different role and the makeup line itself promises flawless finish and divine perfection, so it seems worth checking out. Anna Sui website also offers coupon download and information is available in multiple languages.

Lela Rose makeup choice for fall 2009 is strong and fragile at the same time. According to their key stylist, emerald green smoky eyes were inspired by rainforest and paired with warm gold undertones for the whole look. Warm foundation base was enhanced by the natural glow of healthy and well prepared skin, cheeks were highlighted with rosy peach. The key element of the makeup look became an overall wetness effect: gloss, healthy shine and even creamy eye shadow.

Hair style (created by celebrity hairstyle Ted Gibson) featured a simple but sexy approach: pulled off the face, it was tidy and shiny and created some volume at the crown. A little messy at the top, it didn’t look too made up but rather playful and elegantly casual.
